Creative Director
I spent childhood summers watching my grandmother at her sewing machine. She would hand me fabric scraps, each one alive with colour and texture. Those moments sparked my love of beauty and fascination with how fabric holds memory and story.
That quiet pull toward colour and craftsmanship followed me into adulthood. My career took me through consulting and public service, building systems, solving problems, leading teams. I am good at it. But the creative whisper grew louder until one day I finally said yes. GWÉMÉ began to take shape.
My Okpella name, Omogweme, means I love a child. It carries tenderness, identity, and purpose. This spirit guides GWÉMÉ. The brand honours culture, elevates craftsmanship, and reminds women they are seen, valued, and God’s masterpiece.
I create with intention. I work with artisans who understand meaning, precision, and patience. Whether heritage or contemporary textiles, my goal is the same: to create a sense of place. To shape garments with presence. To design silhouettes that inspire confidence. To craft pieces that feel like truth on the body.
My art follows the same path. Each canvas is a prayer, a reflection, a celebration of renewed identity.
